Social tennis is played on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings from 6pm – 8pm, Saturdays 2-4pm and Sundays 10am-12am. On these occasions it is the policy of the Club for players to mix in as much as possible. Tennis balls are provided.
The Club currently enters 2 ladies’ and 4 men’s teams in the Gloucestershire Summer Doubles League. We also enter teams into the Gloucestershire Winter mixed doubles league. Home matches are played on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and will normally take up courts 2 and 3. Occasionally it may be necessary to use all 4 courts or to play some matches on Saturday afternoon, but these events will be detailed either in the Membership Card or on the Club notice board. The Membership Card gives details of all summer league matches. For members keen to impress the team captains, we hold early season practice nights at which one aim is to seek out new talent for the league campaigns. All members are welcome to these sessions.
The club organises an annual closed tournament consisting of Ladies and Men’s singles as well as mixed, men’s and ladies doubles. American/Round Robin tournaments are also held occasionally on Sundays between May and August.
A member can invite and play with up to 3 visitors at any one time. A charge of £1 per person per session is payable and no visitor may play more than four times in a season. Guest fees should be paid to a member of the committee at the earliest opportunity.
All four courts are colour-coated and the club boasts high quality playing surfaces. Two of the four courts are floodlit. Please note the following points regarding the floodlights. The charge is £1 per court, per half-hour. The meters accept £1 coins only and are in the Squash court hall mounted vertically on the left wall as you go in (so make sure you know the combination for the white sports changing room external door). The coin slot is on the upper right hand side. The top meter is for Court 2 and the bottom one is for Court 3.The lights will turn off at 10.00 p.m. even if you have credit. They take a few minutes to get up to maximum power. If they go off before you can put more money in the slot they take about 15 minutes to come back on so make sure you plan ahead. Five minutes before they go off a red warning light comes on (one for each court). These are mounted on one of the floodlight columns. When the last lights go out, a courtesy lamp comes on automatically to help collect balls and find your way off court. It goes off automatically after 5 minutes. All times are easily adjustable so let the committee know if these are too long or too short.
In the club pavilion there is a notice board where details of fixtures, tournaments, social events and other items of interest to members are displayed. A notice board also exists in the courts area and this is normally used to advertise forthcoming attractions.
On joining the Club you will be issued with a membership card, which shows a combination number that opens the metal box containing the keys to the courts and hut, which is mounted on the wall inside the door to the squash courts. There is also a combination lock on the squash courts door and this number is also shown on your membership card.
If you are the last to leave, please secure the hut and courts.
If you change your address, phone number etc. during the season, PLEASE let the membership secretary know.
