REPORT TO CACSSA AGM 7 June 2010
THE SKITTLES CLUB
MEMBERSHIP
Although there is still concern about the possibility of decline in numbers overall membership has remained fairly steady, 275 players participating since the last report (105 in the 2009 Summer League and 230 in the 2009-10 Winter competitions). Efforts continue to attract more people.SUMMER LEAGUE 2009
Only 6 teams played in the Summer competition but this enabled ‘home’ and ‘away’ games to take place. Over-the-Odds not only topped the League table but also beat A-Bombs in the Play-off to claim the Championship. Notable mention must be made of a performance by Matt Clempson who, despite his team losing all their matches, registered the top score (70) of the competition. Awards on Finals Night were presented by Phil Lewis (CACSSA Steward). (N.B. 8 teams this Summer)COMMITTEE
At our A.G.M. on 6 July 2009 the following Committee was elected:
Chairman Reg Rowley (Hangovers) Secretary(Membership) Hayley Roberts (Strongbows) Treasurer Richard Morris (Odds & Ends) Fixtures Brian Wood (Hangovers) Scorer Patrick Phair (Odds & Ends) Equipment Gary Lusty (Strongbows) Stickers Gary Lusty with Phil Lewis (CACSSA Steward) Publicity Brian Wood and Mike Gange (Fiends) ‘SPECIAL’ COMPETITIONS
- CHAIRMAN’s (John Christie) CUP
A-Bombs (President’s Shield winners) retained the Cup by beating Odds & Ends (League qualifiers) in this game played under Front-pin Rules.- TONY CLAY MEMORIAL SHIELD
Shortly before Christmas an Individual Knock-out competition played under Front-pin Rules was held in memory of the Club’s late Chairman, Tony Clay. The trophy was donated by Tony’s family and was presented to the eventual winner, Scott Castle, by Mark Clay, Tony’s son. Tony’s family also donated £200 which was distributed around players for performances in the form of CACSSA vouchers.- MIXED-PAIRS
The ‘home’ pairing of Kat Livie and Phil Lewis outscored the partnership of Yvonne and Charlie Mills.- PLAYER-of-the-YEAR
Tim Masling won this Individual Knock-out competition played under normal rules by beating last year’s champion, Jamie Bennett, in the final game.REGIONAL COMPETITION
For the first time for some years two teams represented CACSSA and both narrowly missed qualifying for the National Finals.WINTER COMPETITIONS (League and ‘Shield’)
Ten teams competed during the season, with Muffin Men achieving the double of League Championship and Shield Winners and Fiends winning the Wooden Spoon. Tim Masling and Fiona Livie won the trophies for best individual averages and Matt Masling was presented with the Jo Green Memorial Trophy as the Best Young Player. Our Guest-of-Honour on another enjoyable Finals Night was Dave Wilson (CACSSA Vice-President) who presented trophies to all the season’s winners. An innovation this past year has been the provision, at all matches, of two sets of balls, of different sizes, individual players being able to choose with which set they play.
